Looking for joy in ‘Mudville’

‘The outlook wasn’t brilliant’ as poet Earnest Lawrence Thayer put it in his classic baseball ode, Casey at the Bat,’ and there were mud puddles at first base and more umbrellas than bats for Whitman’s Annual Little League Parade, but spirits weren’t dampened as the teams made their way to the Whitman Park ball field for Opening Day ceremonies on Saturday, April 20.
