Thanks to the Berman family, visitors to the Town Hall now have a bench to gather near and rest on. On Friday, June 26, Selectman Margaret McGillivray and Town Administrator Frank Lynam accepted on behalf of the town the gift of a bench honoring the memory of Peter Berman. The bench, located on the east side walk approach to the Town Hall, is a welcome addition and will be appreciated by visitors to the Town Hall for generations to come. |

At first it was more of a hobby for Stephen Langenfeld, something his friends introduced him to. But Langenfeld’s hobby wasn’t like other hobbies. He didn’t collect key chains or anything like that; he was a police officer and after 36 years of service Langenfeld has retired from the auxiliary police force. |

The Community Preservation Committee expects to have two projects on their plate as they head to October special Town Meeting. The process of applications for projects will close on Tuesday, July 14 at 5 p.m. All paperwork must be submitted to the Board of Selectmen’s office by the deadline. |

April’s Hanson Little League Opening Day ceremonies marked the beginning of a new season for Hanson youth baseball, but it also represented the beginning of public fundraising effort to build a new field at the Botieri complex. Since the season has kicked off, the organization had seen donations from the business community, including Mutual Bank. |

Families from Whitman, Hanson, Kingston, and Easton have opened their homes as hosts to foreign exchange students from Belgium, Italy and France. The group of eighteen scholars, ranging in ages from 15-18, are spread between fifteen families on the South Shore. Donna Gardner, Cultural Homestay International teacher and co-coordinator, has herself hosted over sixty students in her fourteen years with the organization and currently has two students staying with her. |

People of my generation grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and Ken Griffey Jr., and we also had the privilege of watching the autumn years of Ray Bourque in Boston, which was always a pleasure. But Jordan retired (for the second time) in 1998, when the Class of 2009 was seven years old; Bourque left Boston three years later; and Junior hasn’t really been Junior since about the same time — and sports have seemed a lot less cool since then. |
